DRAWING OUR IDENTITY FROM GOD
Palm Sunday commemorates the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem to celebrate the Passover. The Jewish people expected the Messiah to be an earthly king who would free them from the tyranny of the Roman Empire.
- They knew who they wanted Jesus to be – a military leader.
So they welcomed Him as a king with palm branches.
- Jesus knew who He really was. He drew His identity from God.
So Jesus rode a donkey, instead of a horse, to symbolize peace.
Jesus never pretend to be someone He wasn’t. He stayed true to His mission and who God created Him to be.
Philippians 2:5 (VOICE) Adopt the mind-set of Jesus the Anointed. Live with His attitude in your hearts.
JESUS HAD THREE MAIN MISSIONS
1. Jesus came to seek and save the lost.
Luke 19:10 (TPT) The Son of Man has come to seek out and to [save] give life to those who are lost.
John 10:10 (AMP) I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance [to the full, till it overflows].
2. Jesus came to reveal the Father.
Colossians 1:15 (NCV) No one can see God, but Jesus Christ is exactly like him.
. . . Look at the Son and see the God who cannot be seen. – MSG
John 14:9 (NKJV) Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?
3. Jesus came to reveal who we are.
2 Corinthians 3:18 (VOICE) Now all of us, with our faces unveiled, reflect the glory of the Lord as if we are mirrors.
. . . [Looking] at the blueprint likeness of God displayed in human form [Jesus], we suddenly realize that we are looking at ourselves! Every feature of His image is mirrored in us . . . we are led from an inferior mind-set to the revealed endorsement of our authentic identity. – Mirror Bible
Satan hoodwinked us into believing we were an ugly duckling. So we became jealous of others. But the ugly duckling is an illusion; which gets broken as we awaken to the truth of our design.
Romans 8:29 (MSG) God knew what he was doing from the very beginning. He decided from the outset to shape the lives of those who love him along the same lines as the life of his Son. The Son stands first in the line of humanity he restored. We see the original and intended shape of our lives there in him.
