How to Keep your Healing / Holding a Charge
Today, I want us to look at, “Holding a Charge,” or you could say, “What to do from believe to receive,” “How to maintain a faith connection,” or “How to keep your healing.” Have you ever had a car battery that just wouldn’t hold a charge? You put it on the charger and it would work, but the minute you took it off the charger it began to loose its charge. Well, that’s how some Christians are. They receive from God when they are under the anointing at church, but when they leave they begin to loose what they received. They do not know how to hold a charge—how to keep their healing.
If you want to learn how to keep your healing, one of the most important things for you to understand is how God’s power works. John G. Lake called the power of God, “The Lightnings of Heaven.” And there are many parallels between the way electricity works in the natural and how God’s power works in the supernatural realm. For instance, electricity never lit up a caveman’s cave, but electricity was there. Why? Because it had to be activated! A lot of people think, “If I can get where God’s power is, I will be healed.” But God’s power does not automatically heal, just like electricity does not automatically flow. Power has to be tapped into and the connection must be maintained.
A good example of this is a car battery. Older car batteries had to be prepared before they would hold a charge. They came with acid already in them, but you had to add purified (distilled) water to them. Older car batteries did NOT come hot. Likewise, God’s power is already within you, but you have to prepare yourself to receive. You have to add the (pure) water of God’s Word and activate the power in you. God’s power did NOT flow out of Jesus into everyone He came in contact with. His power had to be harnessed. We harness God’s power through our faith. Just like water caused the acid to be rolling in the car battery, our faith has to be rolling! It must be alive in us. It’s not good enough for faith to have been alive in you 5 years ago. In order to hold a charge the Word of God must be alive in you today. Let’s see what Paul told Timothy about holding the charge that was placed in him by prophecy and the laying on of hands.
1 Timothy 4:14-15 (NKJV) Do not neglect the gift that is in you, which was given to you by prophecy with the laying on of the hands of the eldership. Meditate on these things; give yourself entirely to them, that your progress may be evident to all.
To “neglect” in the Greek means, “to disregard, view something as being without significance or value, to treat as common, to pay no attention to, or to make light of.” To “meditate” means, “to study, ponder, properly care for, attend to, imagine, and to revolve in the mind.” Yet there is an attitude in the Church that says, “If it’s God’s will it’ll just happen.” But that is NOT what the Bible teaches. Second Peter 3:9 reveals that God’s will is for no one to perish but for ALL to come to repentance. Yet there are people perishing. However, no one would perish if they would cooperate with God. How do you cooperate with God? How do you hold a charge? How to keep your healing? By attending to God’s Word!
Proverbs 4:20-22 My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.
Faith activates God’s healing power and causes it to flow. But we then must keep God’s Word alive within us until our healing is complete. We must keep the acid rolling!
Hebrews 4:2 For unto us was the Gospel preached as well as unto them, but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.
Keeping our faith alive and active is how we hold a charge. We do that by meditating on God’s Word and by speaking it out loud—by talking about it until it sparks something within us. To hold a charge we have to harmonize our thinking, talking, and acting with God’s Word. After all, what is faith? Faith is believing God’s Word to the point that it is the ONLY thing you’ll act on.
How to Keep your Healing: Stay Thankful to God
Ephesians 5:18b (ISV) . . . keep on being filled with the Spirit.
Ephesians 5:19-20 (NIV) Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
To hold a charge you have to stay thankful to God. Sing songs and make a melody in your heart to the Lord. Sing a new song. Stay full of the Spirit. A person who will not praise God will rarely hold a charge. A sad miserable person will almost always lose their charge. Why? Because they meditate on the wrong things. They neglect the gift that is in them. They magnify the problem. What is the answer? The answer is putting your focus back on God (His love, His Word, and His power) and become thankful—get joyful!
Finally, you must realize that there are things the Bible teaches will drain the life of God out of you. Confusion, envy, strife, division, bitterness, hatred, unforgiveness, and so on, will drain your battery! They will keep you from properly holding a charge. That is why we must deal with these heart issues. They will fight for our attention, our joy, our peace, and our energy. Unforgiveness is just NOT worth it! Envy, strife, bitterness are NOT worth it. They bring us out of faith and into negativity. They fight for our soul’s attention. They drain us. Therefore, keep your heart pure before God and keep the Word of God alive within you! Hold your charge! This is how to keep your healing.
