ONE THING IS NEEDED

Philippians 3:13-14 (NIV) I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

Matthew 6:33 (NKJV) Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

The key to goal setting is to put God at the center of it. When we establish Godly goals, around Godly values, we experience a supernatural empowerment to live those goals.

  1. How does God’s Kingdom factor into my goals?
  2. How does righteousness factor into my goals?

Unrighteous goals will always bring pain and problems, instead of peace and joy.

Proverbs 11:3 (NIV) The integrity of the upright guides them, but the unfaithful are destroyed by their duplicity [double minded].

James 1:5-8 (NIV) If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do.

We want to become single minded—having one aim or purpose. What is that aim?

Matthew 6:33 (NKJV) Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

We don’t fit God’s Kingdom into our goals. God’s Kingdom being done in my life is my goal.

Matthew 6:10 (NIV) Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth [in my life] as it is in heaven.

What area of life is holding you back from fully surrendering to the will of God. That’s the area you work on this year.

  • How do I assure God is at the center of my goals?
  • How do I discover the area of my life I need to work on?
  • How do I become single minded instead of double minded?

Answer: Prayer! Seek God this year in prayer.
