Love Like Jesus Part 6
1 Corinthians 14:1 (AMP) Eagerly pursue and seek to acquire [this] love [make it your aim, your great quest].
- Love is the sign of spiritual maturity.
- Love forgives.
- Love serves.
- Love connects.
- Love prays.
- Love believes.
Mark 14:35-36 (NLT) He went on a little farther and fell to the ground. He prayed that, if it were possible, the awful hour awaiting him might pass him by. “Abba, Father,” he cried out, “everything is possible for you. Please take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.”
Jesus’s spirit was willing, but His flesh was weak (Mark 14:38). Jesus knew without the shedding of blood there is no remission of sin (Hebrews 9:22).
Mark 14:38 (NIV) Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.
We all have to fight the fight of faith. The fight of faith is the war that rages between our flesh and our spirit.
Romans 7:15, 18 (NKJV) For what I am doing, I do not understand. For what I will to do, that I do not practice; but what I hate, that I do . . . . For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh) nothing good dwells; for to will is present with me, but how to perform what is good I do not find.
Jesus won this war through faith and prayer.
Hebrews 12:2 (NIV) For the joy set before him [Jesus] he endured the cross.
How do I walk in love, when my flesh doesn’t want to? Faith and prayer! Because love believes. Love sees the final outcome. Seeing the final outcome makes suffering bearable. It gives us something to fight for, something to believe for—to have faith in.
1 Corinthians 13:4-8 (NIV) Love is patient [endures long], love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil [injustice, wrongs, hurts] but rejoices [happy] with the truth [God’s Word]. It always protects, always trusts [to believe, have faith], always hopes [expectation of good], always perseveres. Love never fails.
Love may suffer a little while, but love always wins. What do you do from believe to receive? Walk in love!
I Thessalonians 5:7-8 (Nettleton) We are creatures of the light of the new day, so let us keep our heads clear and our wits about us. Put on all the protection God has provided, for our faith and love will protect our hearts better than a bullet-proof vest.
. . . let our faith and love be like a suit of armor . . . — CEV
Love doesn’t make us vulnerable. It makes us bullet-proof! God is love. So releasing love is releasing God into the situations of your life. Love is the path that leads you to your desired destination.
Galatians 6:9 (TLB) Let us not get tired of doing what is right, for after a while we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t get discouraged and give up.
The biggest problem in our culture is short term thinking. We don’t think about tomorrow. The reason our society is in the mess it’s in is because of our inability to delay gratification.
You will never get to where you want by doing what feels good today. You need a hope that anchors you! Love believes. If you are not believing for something, fighting for something, then you are not living you are existing.
I John 3:14 (FRESH) If you love other people you live, enjoy life, and join Christ, while if you hate others you are subject to bitterness and death.
