Thoughts Become Things Part 4: Preparing For Harvest

The condition of our heart determines the quality of life we will experience here on earth; as well as our participation in God’s miracle working power. The more we acknowledge the good things God has placed in us, by putting us in Christ, the more we experience abundant living.

Philemon 1:6 (AMP) [I pray] that the participation in and sharing of your faith may produce and promote full recognition and appreciation and understanding and precise knowledge of every good [thing] that is ours in [our identification with] Christ Jesus.

Hosea 4:6 (Expanded Bible) My people will be [or are being] destroyed, because they have no [lack] knowledge. You have refused to learn [rejected knowledge].

We all have to decide what we want—we get to choose—a miserable life or an abundant life. We choose our life by what we allow ourselves to think on.

Proverbs 15:15 (AMP) All the days of the desponding [the depressed] and afflicted are made evil [by anxious thoughts and forebodings [fearing the worst], but he who has a glad heart has a continual feast [regardless of circumstances].

The Greek word for “evil” carries the idea of a frustrating chaotic life, full of sadness and trouble.

  • “The Path” in the Greek means, “a traveled way, a way of thinking, feeling, and deciding based on past experiences.”

The Path represents those who are allowing their past experiences to determine their future outcomes and victories.

Isaiah 43:18 (NIV) Forget the former things; do NOT dwell on the past!

HARVEST KEY #1: Stop dwelling on the past!

  • “Rocky Places” in the Greek come from “petra” and “eidos,” which mean an inner connected rock and an outward show. It is an appearance of Godliness that is empty because it has no root.

The Rocky Place represents those whose deep abiding emotions are contrary to God’s Word.

Hosea 10:12 (NLT) Plant the good seeds of righteousness, and you will harvest a crop of my love. Plow up the hard ground of your hearts, for now is the time to seek the LORD.

HARVEST KEY #2: Change how you feel with God’s Word.

  • “The Thorns” represent anything fighting for our attention—the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth, and the desires for other things.

The Thorns represents those who are distracted with things that really don’t matter—misaligned priorities.

Proverbs 4:20-23 (NIV) My son, pay attention to what I say; listen closely to my words. Do not let them out of your sight, keep them within your heart; for they are life to those who find them and health to a man’s whole body. Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.

HARVEST KEY #3: Allow God’s Word to become bigger than anything else.

Mark 4:24 (GWT) Pay attention to what you’re listening to! [Knowledge] will be measured out to you by the measure [of attention] you give.
