You Only Live Twice Part 1

You Only Live Twice

1 Timothy 6:17-18 (NIV) Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life.

We need to live with the reality that we live twice. You are not going to spend the majority of your life on this side. You’re going to spend the majority of your life on the other side.

Hebrews 9:26 (NLV) It is in the plan that all men die once. After that, they will stand before God and be judged.

THE TWO JUDGMENTS

  • The White Throne Judgment. God will ask you, “What did you do with My Son Jesus?”
  • The Judgment Seat of Christ. Here we are not judged, our works are judged. This judgment does not determine Heaven or Hell, but it does determine what your Heaven will be like.

Our position there is determined by our faithfulness here.

2 Corinthians 5:10 (AMP) For we [believers will be called to account and] must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may be repaid for what has been done in the body, whether good or bad [that is, each will be held responsible for his actions, purposes, goals, motives—the use or misuse of his time, opportunities and abilities].

Matthew 16:27 (NIV) For the Son of Man is going to come in his Father’s glory with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what they have done.

Revelation 22:12 (NIV) Look, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to each person according to what they have done.

ETERNITY PRINCIPLES

  • I’m just passing through.

This life is full of pain. We’re not meant to get too comfortable here. This is not our home.

Philippians 3:18-20 (NIV) Many live as enemies of the cross of Christ. Their destiny is destruction, their god is their stomach, and their glory is in their shame. Their mind is set on earthly things. But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ.

Hebrews 11:14-16 (MSG) People who live this way [focused on Heaven] make it plain that they are looking for their true home . . . they were after a far better country than that—heaven country. You can see why God is so proud of them, and has a City waiting for them.

  • My time on earth is short.

Psalm 90:12 (TLB) Teach us to number our days and recognize how few they are; help us to spend them as we should.

We tend to squander what we think we have a lot of.

  • I should make the most of every opportunity.

This life is a test. It determines our position in Heaven. We’ll never have this chance again. So what we do matters. What we do with our time (resources, gifting, life) matters.

1 Corinthians 3:13-14 (NLT) But on the judgment day, fire will reveal what kind of work each builder has done. The fire will show if a person’s work has any value. If the work survives, that builder will receive a reward.
