What is Salvation?

Romans 10:9-10 (NLT) If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by confessing with your mouth that you are saved.

God desired a family

God wanted a family; He wanted sons and daughters. So, God created mankind, both male and female, in His image and likeness; with the capacity to experience His love. When God created the world He placed mankind in a garden of paradise. The world, at that time, knew no sickness, pain, sorrow, or suffering at all. Man lived in total paradise until he decided, “I’m gonna do things my way.” In the Garden of Eden man rebelled against God and brought sin into this world. Romans 6:23 tells us the wages of sin is death. Sin causes pain. Sin is what brought all the suffering and pain we now experience into this world. This suffering was never God’s plan for us.

Not only does sin hurt us, it’s also a violation of God’s law. Since God is a holy God, He has to judge sin. But God is also our loving Heavenly Father that says, “You are my children. I do NOT want to hurt you. I do NOT want to lose you. I love you and I value you.” Because God loved us so much, He sent Jesus to take our punishment for sin. Since man brought sin into this world, man had to receive God’s judgment for sin. So, the Bible tells us that God became a man. His name was Jesus. John 1:29 reveals that Jesus is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.

The Salvation Provided by Jesus

Jesus lived a sinless life. At the end of His life He was crucified for our sin. Isaiah 53:5 tells us that Jesus was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement that brought us peace was upon Him; and with His stripes we are healed. On the cross, God the Father took my sin and your sin away from us and put it on Jesus. Jesus took the punishment we deserved, so we could have peace with God, and be delivered from the bondage of sin. After Jesus died on the cross, He went into Hades in our place. Jesus went to hell so we would not have to. Finally, once Jesus obtained righteousness for us, God raised Jesus from the dead. God now offers righteousness as a free gift to all who believe on the Lord, Jesus Christ. Since Jesus has paid for your sins there is no need for you to pay for them. All you must do to receive forgiveness of sins is believe that God raised Jesus from the dead and confess Him as Lord of your life. That’s what salvation is.

Salvation Prayer

Heavenly Father, I believe that Jesus died for my sins and rose from the dead. I believe He took the punishment for my sins. Jesus, I confess you as Lord of my life. Come into my heart, make me a new person. Thank you for saving me. Amen.
