SFFC NEWSLETTER – FEBRUARY 2019
Hello Strong Faith Family,
We want to highlight some amazing events
and resources available to you!
What do you think of when you think of February? Retailers promote it as the time to “shop in the name of love” (just when we were finally getting those Christmas bills paid off). Ah, yes, Valentine’s Day. The day that commemorates love. But what kind of love?
As Pastor David has been sharing this month in his LOVE CAN series, there are basically four kinds of love. They are:
- Eros—a romantic love based on physical desire
- Philos—a friendship love based on shared experiences
- Storge—a family love based on brotherly affection
- Agape—a divine love based on intimacy with God
Of course the only true, lasting love is God’s agape love. Agape is an absolute, unconditional love. It is not short-sighted. It sees God’s original intention. It is a giving love, not a taking love. It allows us to love others unconditionally, as God does. It is only God’s agape love that can pull out the hidden treasure in people, because it looks beyond sin to the treasure within.
In 1 Corinthians 13:1-3, Paul told us that life without this love is: ineffective, insignificant, insufficient, incomplete, and inadequate. But, praise God, he went on to tell us in 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 what a life with this love looks like!
Everything is not going to go perfectly in your life, but through all the changes: be it marriage, job, losing a friend or family member, health, living situation, income fluctuation, (fill in the blank), God’s love will never change. Hallelujah!
The power of God’s love is always greater than your experiences, and is always there to help you through. His love is always constant, abundant, and reaching out to meet your need.
Lamentations 3:22-23 (NIV) The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is His faithfulness.
Finding Beauty in the Ashes
Isaiah 61:3 (NKJV) . . . [The Lord gives] beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, and the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they (His people) might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that He might be glorified.
You are beautiful! Let that sink in. You’ve probably heard that “beauty is in the eye of the beholder,” but the world’s concept of beauty is not the same as God’s. The world defines beauty as what is aesthetically pleasing to the eye – that is, it focuses on outward appearance – but this is not what God values. God is concerned with your inner being.
1 Peter 3:4 (NKJV) Rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God.
In the book of Genesis, you can read about Jacob and his relationship with his two wives, Leah and Rachel. Jacob loved Rachael because of her natural beauty (he was attracted to her outward appearance). Worldly thinking would presume that Jesus came through the lineage of Rachel, but He didn’t. The Lion of the tribe of Judah, Jesus, is a descendant of Jacob and Leah! This is one of many biblical examples showing that what the world values is different from what God values.
Also, your past does not matter. It is past! As a child of God, your sins have been forgiven. If God sees you as forgiven and your past forgotten, you should do the same. Your opinion of yourself will change when you see yourself through God’s eyes. God sees every person – all of His creation – as beautiful.
Ecclesiastes 3:11 (KJV) He hath made everything beautiful in His time . . . .
When you seek God’s heart, He will reveal His heavenly perception of beauty to you. It is only when you accept that God loves you – just as you are, as He created you to be – that you will see yourself as truly beautiful.
Accept that you are loved by God and you will be able to love and value yourself. Then, when you truly know you are loved by God and that He sees you as special and beautiful, you will walk in freedom and fulfill all that God has created you for.
1 Peter 2:4 (BBE) . . . not honored by men, but of great and special value to God.
This is Strong Faith Family Church’s vision and mission: To usher people into a meaningful relationship with God, establish them in a Bible-based sense of self-worth, and help them find and fulfill the plan of God for their life.
At SFFC you are loved and valued. You are family! We are dedicated to providing you with the resources to help you see yourself as God sees you, perfect in His eyes! You may ask, “How do I start?” It’s really quite simple . . . surround yourself with people who see you as God sees you and who love you with His love. You will discover this as you go through the Growth Track, join a small group, or become part of a Dream Team. Do not be satisfied with standing on the sidelines. You are meant for far greater things than what the world has to offer. Begin, today, and receive your inheritance as a part of God’s family.
Psalms 139:14 (NKJV) I will praise You, Lord, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
