In Like a Lamb, Out Like a Lion
Spring! That glorious time of year when winter’s chill fades and nature awakens. Trees bud, new sprouts break through the ground, and warmer temperatures draw people outdoors to enjoy the beauty that surrounds them.
Spring is a time of rebirth, marking the end of the winter season. Is it any wonder that God created Spring to mirror the miracle of Easter? To unbelievers Jesus’s death by crucifixion marked the end of His life, but in reality it was the beginning of eternal life for all who would receive Him.
We’ve all heard the saying, “in like a Lion, out like a Lamb,” referring to Spring weather, but what Jesus did on that first Easter was the reverse. Our Savior was laid in the tomb as the Sacrificial Lamb, but he rose again as the Mighty Lion of the Tribe of Judah!
Lions symbolize courage and strength. They are powerful and majestic creatures. They are brave, courageous, and fight to protect what is theirs. Likewise, Jesus powerfully and courageously destroyed Satan’s authority over us, when He rose in majesty from the dead, setting us free forever from death’s bondage.
Hebrews 2:15-15 (KJV) “…that through death He might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.”
Hallelujah! Jesus is the Victorious One! He is Jehovah-Nissi, The Lord our Banner (of Victory). Since Jesus has given us the victory, we should live a life that not only praises and honors Him, but also one that shares with others the Good News of all that His death, burial, and resurrection has accomplished. If we are truly Christ’s disciples, we must follow His example of ministering to others.
John 13: 14-15 (KJV) “If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have given you an example that ye should do as I have done to you.”
Are you living a life that honors Jesus’s sacrifice and fulfills the destiny God has planned for you? Are you following Jesus’s example of serving others?
A great place to begin is right here at Strong Faith Family Church. No matter who you are, no matter how insignificant you may feel, know that God created you for a divine purpose. If you’re not sure what that purpose is, the Sunday morning Growth Track will enable you to discover your spiritual gifts, and show you where you can begin to make a difference for God.
Remember, we are all called to be fellow-laborers with Christ, so let us honor Him each and every day with our service. This Easter season take time to remember, reflect on, and praise God for the price Jesus paid to redeem us and make us not only God’s willing servants, but also His beloved children.
2 Corinthians 4:5 (BBE) “For our preaching is not about ourselves, but about Christ Jesus as our Lord, and ourselves as your servants through Him.”
1 John 3:1 (WEB) “See what great love the Father has shown us in calling us the children of God; and such we truly are.”
Faith is not a leap into the dark, it is a leap into the light.
So how do you trust God? By trusting His Word. The Bible is not a ‘normal’ book. The words of the Bible were inspired by The Holy Spirit and contain God’s life-changing power! Jesus said in John 6:63 (NIV) The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you are spirit [pneuma: wind or breath of God that exerts His influence] and they are life [zoe: God’s quality of life].
When you read God’s Word, ponder It (meditate on It, keep coming back to It throughout the day), speak It, and do It, you will see your life change for the better.
Joshua 1:7-8 (NIV) Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.
Here are three key truths that will help you get the most out of your Bible reading and truly fall in love with The Word.
- Meditation activates revelation.
God’s Word rarely gets revealed (you don’t always “get it”) on the first pass. You have to continue to think about The Word you’ve read – pondering It, talking about It in your small group, giving the Holy Spirit time to reveal It to you. Meditation enables truth to be revealed from the spiritual realm to the natural realm; that is, from your born-again spirit to your brain.
- Revelation activates faith.
In order for your faith to come alive, enabling you to believe God’s promises, you must have revelation. In other words, logos (God’s written word) must become rhema (God’s revealed word). If you don’t understand a verse, ask God to explain it to you, as Mary did in Luke 1:34-38.
Luke 1:34-38 (NIV) “ How will this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?” The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God [revelation took place] . . . . For no word [rhema] from God will ever fail.” “I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.” Then the angel left her.
- Faith activates God’s Word.
You must mix your Bible reading with faith for God to reveal the truth of His Word to you. Hebrews 4:2 (NIV) tells us: For we also have had the gospel preached to us, just as they did; but the message they heard was of no value to them, because those who heard did not combine it with faith.
Your faith will cause the Bible to come alive.
God cares deeply about you, and He has made provision for every area of your life. Find out the solution God has provided for your situation by reading His Word.
A Bible which is falling apart usually belongs to someone who is not!
