My Best Friend Part 3
My Friend the Holy Spirit
We depend on God the Father for direction. Our job is to come into agreement with the Father’s plan. Then, we depend on the Holy Spirit to make the Father’s plan come to pass. Although that sounds easy, it can be very challenging.
Romans 7:19-8:1 (Last Days Bible) The good I want to do, I don’t do, but I keep on doing the evil things I don’t want to do . . . . So I’ve discovered the rule, that, when I want to do what’s right, evil is always there to pull me down . . . . Who will rescue me from this body that’s taking me to death? Thank God! There is abundant deliverance thru Jesus Christ our Lord . . . . Because we no longer seek to live right solely by means of our own will and determination, but with the powerful help and guidance of the Holy Spirit.
1. The Holy Spirit empowers me to live righteously.
Romans 8:9 (ICC New Testament) You, as Christians, are no longer under the influence of the flesh. You are rather under that of the Spirit, if the Spirit of God is really in abiding communion with you.
John 15:4-5 (NKJV) Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.
2. The Holy Spirit empowers me to live supernaturally.
Acts 10:38 (NLT) And you know that God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. Then Jesus went around doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him.
Isaiah 30:21 (NIV) Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.”
3. The Holy Spirit empowers me to live on mission.
Acts 13:2-3 (NIV) While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” So after they had fasted and prayed, they placed their hands on them and sent them off.
1 Thessalonians 1:5 (NIV) Our gospel came to you not simply with words, but also with power, with the Holy Spirit and with deep conviction.
Take a Deep Breath
Ephesians 4:30 (Message) Don’t grieve God. Don’t break his heart. His Holy Spirit, moving and breathing in you, is the most intimate part of your life, making you fit for himself. Don’t take such a gift for granted.
1. Let go of fears and misperceptions.
Proverbs 3:5 (Message) Trust GOD from the bottom of your heart; don’t try to figure out everything on your own.
2. Go all in.
Jeremiah 29:13 (NIV) You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.
● I will be here at church every Sunday.
● I will attend my small group faithfully.
● I will passionately serve on the Dream Team.
● I will seek God daily.
3. Develop an intimate friendship with the Spirit of God.
1 John 1:3 (Message) We saw it, we heard it, and now we’re telling you so you can experience it along with us, this experience of communion with the Father and his Son, Jesus Christ. Our motive for writing is simply this: We want you to enjoy this, too. Your joy will double our joy!
