HE WILL BE CALLED
Isaiah 9:6 (NIV) For to us a child is born to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Everyday we’re faced with decisions. Big decisions, small decisions, personal decisions, strategic decisions, spiritual decisions, etc. Isaiah tells us about some spiritual decisions we all should make. Some will DECIDE to call Jesus their, “Wonderful Counselor.” Some will DECIDE to call Him, “Might God.” Some, “Everlasting Father.” And some, “Prince of Peace.”
We are in a generation in desperate need of guidance. We’re faced with financial decision, marital decisions, job related decisions. Normally we come to a counselor once everything has fallen apart. Jesus wants to guide us through life, so it doesn’t fall apart. He wants to be our “Wonderful Counselor.”
1. Make Jesus your, “Wonderful Counselor.”
The Hebrew meaning is a “guide too wonderful for words.”
Isaiah 58:11 (EXB) The Lord will always lead you. He will satisfy your ·needs [soul] in dry lands and give strength to your bones. You will be like a garden that is well-watered, like a spring ·that never runs dry [whose waters never fail].
Action Step: Look to Jesus for the love, encouragement, appreciation, and support you need.
2. Make Jesus your, “Mighty God.”
There are situations we face in life where only a miracle will do.
Job 26:7-14 (AMP) It is God who . . . hangs the earth on nothing. He wraps the waters in His clouds . . . He covers the face of the full moon . . . He has inscribed a circular limit (the horizon) on the face of the waters . . . The pillars of the heavens tremble and are terrified at His rebuke . . . By His breath the heavens are cleared; His hand has pierced the [swiftly] fleeing serpent. “Yet these are just the fringes of His ways [mere samples of His power], the faintest whisper of His voice! Who can contemplate the thunder of His [full] mighty power?
- We need God’s power at work in us.
Philippians 2:13 (NLT) For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.
- We need God’s power at work for us.
There are situations you are facing beyond your control.
- We need God’s power at work through us.
2 Corinthians 12:9-10 (NLT) [God’s] power works best in weakness.” So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me . . . . For when I am weak, then I am strong.
Action Step: Trust God’s Word above what you see, feel, and currently understand.
3. Make Jesus your, “Everlasting Father.”
Many of the issues of life arise from the feelings of being unloved, unwanted, not good enough, an inconvenience to our parents. God wants to fill in the gaps created by your earthly parents.
Psalm 68:5-7 (HCSB) God in His holy dwelling is a father of the fatherless and a champion of widows. God provides homes for those who are deserted. He leads out the prisoners to prosperity, but the rebellious live in a scorched land.
Action Step: Plug into God’s family.
4. Make Jesus your, “Prince of Peace.”
The Hebrew meaning is “the Lord of wholeness.” I have to stop looking to people to make me whole. I realize only Jesus has the power to make me whole . . . to give me peace.
Philippians 4:6-7 (NLT) Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.
Action Step: Make Jesus the priority relationship of your life.
