Identity Theft Part 1

Identity Theft Part 1

Ephesians 1:4-6, 11 (MSG) Long before he laid down earth’s foundations, he had us in mind, had settled on us as the focus of his love, to be made whole and holy by his love. Long, long ago he decided to adopt us into his family through Jesus Christ. (What pleasure he took in planning this!) He wanted us to enter into the celebration of his lavish gift-giving by the hand of his beloved Son . . . . It’s in Christ that we find out who we are and what we are living for.

Your identity gives you access to the things that belong to you. It is the determining factor in our achievements or our limitations. Therefore, your identity determines your destiny.

Satan is after your identity—He wants you to identify with the wrong things. Why? To steal your future and potential. Our generation is plagued with this, we tell people to self-identify.

Genesis 1:26-27 (NIV) Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.

. . . God said: “We will make people in our own image, modeling them on ourselves . . .” So God created people as a reflection of God, created them to be like God . . . . – LBP

We bear God’s very own divine image. God has set mankind apart from all other created beings.

Psalm 8:4-6 (GNT) What are human beings, that you think of them; mere mortals, that you care for them? Yet you made them inferior only to Yourself; you crowned them with glory and honor. You appointed them rulers over everything you made; you placed them over all creation.

Genesis 3:1-5 (NKJV) Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?” And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden; but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.’” Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

Genesis 3:13 (NKJV) Then the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?” The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”

. . . The serpent hath caused me to forget. – YLT

Satan caused Eve to forget that they were already like God!

Our experience of life is not based on reality, it’s based on identity—our self-perception. Therefore, we will only experience life as God intended when our self-image—our God given identity—is restored. We restore our identity through the Word of God, Worship, and Prayer.

Don’t let Satan steal another day of your life.

Ephesians 1:3 (Worldwide English) He has blessed us in Christ with every blessing which is in heaven, such as the Spirit gives us.

Ephesians 2:6 (NIV) God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus.

Ephesians 2:10 (NIV) For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
