If My People Part 1: Prayer Of Dedication

SOLOMON DEDICATES THE TEMPLE

Solomon’s prayer is not that we will never miss the mark. Solomon’s prayer is a dedication for when we miss the mark.

2 Chronicles 6:12, 21 (NLT) Solomon stood before the altar of the Lord in front of the entire community of Israel, and he lifted his hands in prayer . . . 21 May you hear the humble and earnest requests from me and your people Israel when we pray toward this place. Yes, hear us from heaven where you live, and when you hear, forgive.

Solomon then goes through several situations:

  • If someone wrongs another person – sin against them.
  • If there is no rain because of sin.
  • If there is a famine, disaster, or disease.
  • If people go into captivity because of sin.

Solomon understood that sin causes pain.

2 Chronicles 7:14 (NLT) If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land.

  • If you humble yourself, I will hear.
  • If you seek me, I will forgive.
  • If you turn, I will restore.

James 4:10 (ESV) Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you.

Luke 5:18-25 (VOICE) Some men came to the house, carrying a paralyzed man on his bed pallet. They wanted to bring him in and present him to Jesus, but the house was so packed with people that they couldn’t get in. So they climbed up on the roof and pulled off some roof tiles . . . . Then they lowered the man by ropes so he came to rest right in front of Jesus . . . . 20 My friend, all your sins are forgiven . . . . 24 (He turned to the paralyzed man lying on the pallet), I say, get up, take your mat, and go home. Then, right in front of their eyes, the man stood up, picked up his bed, and left to go home—full of praises for God!

Matthew 9:20-22 (CW) A woman who had been menstruating almost continuously for the last twelve years managed to squeeze through the crowd, come up behind Jesus and reach out far enough to touch the edge of His robe. She felt that if she could only touch His robe, she would be healed. Jesus stopped. He turned to her and said, “Don’t be afraid. You didn’t do anything wrong by touching me. Your faith has made you well.” The woman had been healed the instant she had touched His robe.

Luke 8:41-42, 50-56 (TPT) A man named Jairus, the leader of the local Jewish congregation, fell before Jesus’ feet. He desperately begged him to come and heal his twelve-year-old daughter, his only child, because she was at the point of death. Jesus started to go with him to his home to see her . . . . someone came from Jairus’ house and told him, “There’s no need to bother the Master any further. Your daughter has passed away. She’s gone.” . . . . 50 When Jesus heard this, he said, “Jairus, don’t yield to your fear. Have faith in me and she will live again.” When they arrived at the house, Jesus allowed only Peter, John, and Jacob—along with the child’s parents—to go inside. Jesus told those left outside, who were sobbing and wailing with grief, “Stop crying. She is not dead; she’s just asleep and must be awakened.” They laughed at him, knowing for certain that she had died. Jesus approached the body, took the girl by her hand, and called out with a loud voice, “My sleeping child, awake! Rise up!” Instantly her spirit returned to her body and she stood up.

2 Chronicles 7:14 (NLT) If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land.

If we would pray, seek, and turn, God would hear, forgive, and restore; not only us, but also those around us.
