If My People Part 3: Living A God First Life

LIVING A GOD FIRST LIFE

2 Chronicles 7:14 (NLT) If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land.

  • If you humble self, I will hear.
  • If you seek me, I will forgive.
  • If you turn, I will restore.

Last week we looked at how important it is for us to humble ourselves—to become teachable—so the lies in our lives can be exposed and God’s truth can be revealed. This week I want to look at the second thing God revealed in 2 Chronicles 7:14: Seeking God and living a God first life.

Matthew 6:33 (NIV) Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness [approval], and all these things shall be added to you.

Seek first to . . . .

  1. Expand the territory subject to Christ’s rule. We do that by discovering our purpose and using our gifts to win people to Jesus.
  2. Please God over pleasing people.

A God first life is a life of purpose.

Proverbs 29:18 (KJV) Where there is no vision, the people perish . . . .

The Hebrew word for “vision” is Chazown (khaw-zone’). It means a dream, revelation, or vision.

Vision for life brings focus. Hell has a plan for you. Purpose tells us what to say “yes” to and what to say “no” to.

WHERE DOES PURPOSE COME FROM?

Ephesians 1:11 (Message) It’s in Christ that we find out who we are and what we are living for . . . part of the overall purpose he is working out in everything and everyone.

God has a plan for our lives. To seek God first means to seek out God’s plan. “I will fulfill what you have called me to, Lord! Your purpose emerges as you start discovering who you are in Christ Jesus.

This world gives three main determinisms for identity:

1. Genetic Determinism – Parents
2. Environmental Determinism – Environment
3. Psychic Determinism – Experiences

4. In-Christ Determinism – You are who God says you are. You can do what God says you can do.

Most of the lies we have to overcome center around these determinisms. “The world says vs. what God says.” But we are not living to please the world, we are living to please God.

Jeremiah 29:11-14 (NIV) For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you,” declares the Lord, “and will bring you back from captivity.
