2 Chronicles 7:14 (NLT) If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land.
- If you humble self, I will hear.
- If you seek me, I will forgive.
- If you turn, I will restore.
We looked at how important it is for us to humble ourselves—become teachable—so the lies in our lives can be exposed and God’s truth can be revealed. Last week we talked about seeking God and living a God first life, and the benefits that come from putting God first.
Romans 6:23 (GNT) For sin pays its wage—death.
“Death,” in the Bible, means separation. Sin moves you further away [separates you] from the life God has for you.
Proverbs 14:12 (VOICE) Before every person lies a road that seems to be right, but the end of that road is death and destruction.
What if, what you think is right, is actually the very thing causing the pain and problems you’re experiencing.
Proverbs 14:12 (TPT) You can rationalize it all you want and justify the path of error you have chosen, but you’ll find out in the end that you took the road to destruction.
We can justify the path we’re on, but we cannot make the wrong path take us to the right end result.
When destruction starts happening in our lives we can either:
- Persist on the path we’re on.
- Change the path we’re on.
Matthew 3:1-2 (AMP) In those days John the Baptist appeared, preaching . . . . “Repent [change your inner self—your old way of thinking, regret past sins, live your life in a way that proves repentance; seek God’s purpose for your life], for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”
Matthew 4:17 (CW) [Jesus starts His ministry] From then on, Jesus began to tell people, “Turn to God and change the way you think and act, because the kingdom of heaven is near!”
Jesus was saying, “Turn and be restored.”
Matthew 11:28 (MSG) Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life.
Most of us live our lives with a “law of gravity” mentality. Gravity holds us to the earth. We’ve learned how to live being held down. Likewise, sin will hold you down. But there are higher laws that allow us to soar.
Isaiah 55:8-9 (MSG) “I don’t think the way you think. The way you work isn’t the way I work.” God’s Decree. “For as the sky soars high above earth, so the way I work surpasses the way you work, and the way I think is beyond the way you think.
- The law of gravity holds me to the earth.
- The law of lift enables me to soar above it.
Romans 8:2 (LDB) The law of life thru Christ Jesus has not only granted me forgiveness and the promise of eternal life, but also power thru Him to be set free from the power that the law of sin [and death] had over me.
- The law of sin: Sin brings death.
- The law of life: Jesus restores life.
Ezekiel 18:32 (ESV) I have no pleasure in the death of anyone, declares the Lord God; so turn, and live.
