Real Christianity Part 5: Identifying The Holy Spirit’s Voice

Romans 8:14 (ERV) The true children of God are those who let God’s Spirit lead them.

We will never identify the voice of God if we’re not spending time with God.

1 Corinthians 2:9-12 (NLT) “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him.” But we know these things because God has revealed them to us by his Spirit, and his Spirit searches out everything and shows us even God’s deep secrets. No one can know what anyone else is really thinking except that person alone, and no one can know God’s thoughts except God’s own Spirit. And God has actually given us his Spirit (not the world’s spirit) so we can know the wonderful things God has freely given us.

INTERNAL NOT EXTERNAL

1 Kings 19:11-12 (NIV) The LORD said [to Elijah], “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the LORD, for the LORD is about to pass by.” Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper.

The Lord’s voice comes from within as a gentle whisper.

THE THREE VOICES WITHIN

1. The Voice of the Flesh – Cravings and impulses.

Ephesians 2:3 (AMP) We as well as you once lived and conducted ourselves in the passions of our flesh [our behavior governed by our corrupt and sensual nature], obeying the impulses of the flesh and the thoughts of the mind [our cravings dictated by our senses and our dark imaginings].

God created pleasure, but pleasure needs to be managed.

2. The Voice of the Soul – Emotions and reasoning.

Romans 8:5-6 (NIV) Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.

God created emotions, but emotions needs to be managed.

3. The Voice of the Spirit – Inner knowing or intuition.

Acts 27:10 (NKJV) [Paul said] “Men, I perceive that this voyage will end with disaster and much loss, not only of the cargo and ship, but also our lives.”

INCREASING THE VOLUME

Matthew 17:15-22 (ISV) “Sir, have mercy on my son, because he is an epileptic and suffers terribly . . . . I brought him to your disciples, but they couldn’t heal him.” . . . . The disciples came to Jesus privately and asked, “Why couldn’t we drive it out?” He told them, “Because of your lack of faith . . . . This kind does not come out except by prayer and fasting.”

Feed your spirit, starve your flesh. You will increase the volume of whatever you feed more.
