Right and Wrong Thinking Part 3
Hosea 4:6 (EXB) My people ·will be [or are being] destroyed, because they ·have no [lack] knowledge.
FOUR AREAS OF SANCTIFICATION
- Our knowledge of God.
- Our knowledge of self.
- Our knowledge of our enemy.
- Our knowledge of faith.
OUR KNOWLEDGE OF OUR ENEMY
Much of what we believe about the devil has been mixed with the views of Judaism. There is a spiritual bond between Christianity and Judaism. Like Christianity, Judaism begins with the covenant God made to Abraham. However, Judaism rejects Jesus as Messiah, along with His teachings. In so doing, they trap themselves in an Old Testament perspective.
2 Corinthians 3:14 (NKJV) Their minds were blinded. For until this day the same veil remains unlifted in the reading of the Old Testament, because the veil is taken away in Christ.
- The New Testament is in the Old Testament concealed.
- The Old Testament is in the New Testament revealed.
Hebrews 1:1-3 (NIV) In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe. The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being.
The view of Judaism: There is no Devil. Satan is God’s servant. He is simply Heaven’s prosecuting attorney. Therefore, God exercises sovereign control over both good and evil. Everything that happens is the will of God.
John 10:10 (NIV) The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life.
Acts 10:38 (KJV) God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.
1 Peter 5:8-9 (NLT) Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. Stand firm against him, and be strong in your faith.
1. You have a real enemy. That’s why prayer is so important.
Ephesians 6:12-13 (NIV) For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground.
2. He wants to enslave you through fear.
Hebrews 2:14-15 (LDB) Jesus took upon Himself our humanity so that He could die, because only by dying could He crush the power of the one who had the power of death—that is, the devil. He did it so that He might set free those who were enslaved all their lives by fear.
3. He uses deception to do this.
Ephesians 6:11 (CJB) Use all the armor and weaponry that God provides, so that you will be able to stand against the deceptive tactics of the Adversary.
4. Unforgiveness powers his deception.
2 Corinthians 2:10-11 (CW) When I forgive anyone, I do so totally, because that’s the way Christ forgave me. Forgiving each other is important so Satan won’t get a foothold among us, for we are quite aware of his schemes against us.
5. We begin to speak his lie.
- Submit yourself to God and forgive.
- Resist the enemy and his lies.
- Put God’s truth in your mouth.
James 4:7 (KJV) Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
