Right and Wrong Thinking Part 4
Hosea 4:6 (EXB) My people ·will be [or are being] destroyed, because they ·have no [lack] knowledge.
FOUR AREAS OF SANCTIFICATION
Our knowledge of God, self, our enemy, and faith.
OUR KNOWLEDGE OF FAITH
Faith comes from the Greek word “pistis;” meaning to turn to, believe in, trust in, and hope in the Lord.
Acts 11:21 (CEV) The Lord’s power was with them, and many people turned to the Lord and put their faith in him.
Hebrews 6:1 (CEV) We shouldn’t need to keep talking about why we ought to turn from deeds that bring death and why we ought to have faith in God.
Faith will always cause you to draw closer to God.
Hebrews 11:6 (TLB) You can never please God without faith, without depending on him. Anyone who wants to come to God must believe that there is a God and that he rewards those who sincerely look for him.
FAITH IS NOT
- Prideful. It doesn’t compare and boast.
Romans 3:27 (ERV) Do we have any reason to boast about ourselves? No reason at all. And why not? Because we are depending on the way of faith, not on what we have done.
- Materialistic. It’s not about the new car or the new house.
1 Timothy 6:10-12 (NIV) Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs. But you, man of God, flee from all this . . . . Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called.
Matthew 6:33 (Phillips) Set your heart on the kingdom and his goodness, and all these things will come to you as a matter of course.
- Manipulative. It doesn’t try to control God or people.
Faith is joining forces with God; so His will is accomplished.
THE POWER OF FAITH
Hebrews 11:29-36 (NIV) By faith the people passed through the Red Sea as on dry land . . . . By faith the walls of Jericho fell . . . . faith conquered kingdoms, administered justice, and gained what was promised; who shut the mouths of lions, quenched the fury of the flames, and escaped the edge of the sword; whose weakness was turned to strength; and who became powerful in battle . . . . Some faced jeers and flogging, and even chains and imprisonment.
1 John 5:4 (AMP) For everyone born of God is victorious and overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has conquered and overcome the world—our [continuing, persistent] faith.
James 5:15 (NKJV) And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up.
HOW DOES FAITH WORK?
Hebrews 11:1 (AMP) NOW FAITH is the assurance (the confirmation, the title deed) of the things [we] hope for, being the proof of things [we] do not see and the conviction of their reality [faith perceiving as real fact what is not revealed to the senses].
- The word “title deed” means a proof of ownership.
- The word “things” means an accomplished fact.
- The word “hope” means a joyful expectation.
You own everything Jesus accomplished on your behalf.
2 Corinthians 1:20 (AMP) For as many as are the promises of God, they all find their Yes [answer] in Him [Christ]. For this reason we also utter the Amen (so be it) to God through Him.
Faith is us giving the “Amen.” It is simply agreeing with God.
Mark 11:22-24 (NIV) “Have faith in God,” Jesus answered. “Truly I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. [Faith will be in your mouth!]
Romans 15:13 (BASIC) Now may the God of hope make you full of joy and peace through faith.
Romans 4:20 (LDB) [Abraham’s] faith increased as he praised and thanked God for what he knew God would do.
