Stop Look Listen Part 2: How Do I Win People To Jesus

As a Christian, Palm Sunday is a time for us to reflect on how we can follow in Christ’s footsteps. How we can develop a passion for the one thing Jesus was so passionate about.

Matthew 4:19 (TPT) Jesus said, “Come and follow me, and I will transform you into men who catch people for God.”

“Evangelism” often has a negative connotation: We think of yelling preachers, uncomfortable conversations, and forceful arguments—trying to prove our point to someone. Yet, the person most responsible for you coming to Christ probably didn’t look like that. You would probably describe the person who led you to Jesus this way:

  • Kind—–NOT—–Forceful
  • Caring—–NOT—–Judgmental
  • Generous—–NOT—–Thoughtless
  • Praying—–NOT—–Religious

2 Timothy 2:23-25 (NLT) Don’t get involved in foolish, ignorant arguments that only start fights. The Lord’s servants must not quarrel but must be kind to everyone. They must be able to teach effectively and be patient with difficult people. They should gently teach those who oppose the truth. Perhaps God will change those people’s hearts, and they will believe.

  1. Accept the personal responsibility. God’s plan for people receiving Jesus is you!

Acts 20:24 (NCV) The most important thing is that I complete my mission, the work that the Lord Jesus gave me—to tell people the Good News about God’s grace.

  1. Build intentional relationships. Be a friend. People are in your life for a reason. But people don’t care what you know until they know you care.

1 Corinthians 9:19-23 (VOICE) I am free of obligations to all people. And, even though no one (except Jesus) owns me, I have become a slave by my own free will to everyone in hopes that I would gather more believers . . . . I’m flexible, adaptable, and able to do and be whatever is needed [a listening ear, a helping hand, etc.] for all kinds of people so that in the end I can use every means at my disposal to offer them salvation.

  1. Share your personal story. Look for an opportunity to share what God has done in your life. The Bible calls us witnesses. A witness simply shares what they witnessed.

1 Peter 3:15 (ERV) Always be ready to answer everyone who asks you to explain about the hope you have.

  1. Give a personal invitation. Invite them to church. It really is that easy.

Nehemiah 4:14 (NIRV) Don’t be afraid of your enemy. Remember the Lord. He is great and powerful. So fight for your families. Fight for your sons and daughters. Fight for your wives and homes.
